The duo, dangerous exercise. Work without net or guardrail. Not the smallest bass note behind which to hide the time of hesitation, not the least cymbal net to hide an absence, a possible squeak. Precondition sine qua non to extract from a duet its substantive marrow: that the musicians in the presence know each other. “Practice” with regularity.
This is the case of saxophonist Robert Jeanne, dean of Liège jazz since the disappearance of Jacques Pelzer, and multi-style pianist Jean-François Maljean.

In the repertoire of this duet, a composition of each of the partners: the famous Stan dedicated by Robert Jeanne to his master to play Stan Getz, and Rue de la paix composed by Maljean. Two titles of Charlie Haden, one of the favorite composers of the open man that remained Robert Jeanne. Two other works made in Belgium, one of the friend (mi) Verderame, the other of Jack Van Poll, both members of the galaxy Jeanne. The beautiful melody of David Raskin and Johnny Mercer, My love and I.
And, more surprising (and riskier), some of Jacques Brel’s best-known songs, Do not Leave Me (a wink to Toots?) And The Song of Old Lovers (a wink to Liliane?). Also note the presence on two tracks of guitarist Matteo di Leonardi, which brings a rhythmic and harmonic color to the heart of this intimate world.

In total, a symbiosis without any headache, a work focused primarily on sound and melody, a beautiful record of friendship and complicity.
